On April 20th, while on a routine safety patrol, the crew aboard Auxiliary vessel facility "Sealife" offered to assist the search and rescue unit out of Coast Guard Station Channel Islands, CA. They were searching for a reported body in the water near where a man had disappeared the previous week. The young man disappeared after jumping off a pier.

With "Sealife's" unique shallow draft capabilities, the coxswain and crew were tasked to search just outside of the surf line. A Coast Guard helicopter and personal watercraft from the Ventura County Fire Department also joined the search.

Nothing was found that day. The victim’s body was recovered the following day when the search was resumed in the surf by the Fire Department’s personal watercraft.

The Division 7, D11-SR, crew aboard the "Sealife" were coxswain Mike Brodey (Flotilla 74) and crew Ray Hinton (Flotilla 77) and Kevin Sheldon (Flotilla 73).
