Participants in round robin discussions |
Charlotte, August 25. An unusual activity took place during the National Training Conference (NTRAIN), it was aptly named "Round Robin." It was decided to do it again at this year's NACON. Tables are set up for departments and directorates and are staffed by Auxiliarists who are considered expert in their field. These Auxiliarists are usually the Department Directors and their staff.
The sixteen District Commodores (DCO) and the Chiefs of Staff rotate around the room, table to table, and are given an opportunity to engage in conversation at each table. The table staff will have informational handouts and are prepared to answer questions and engage in limited problem solving.
The table staffs are treating the activity as a marketing opportunity, a 10 minute visit to "sell their wares." Suggested materials that could be used to stimulate conversation included, but were not limited to organization charts (with contact names, email and phone numbers); a list of who to call for what and who should be making the contact; and important initiatives and projects.
"There are no set questions and there isn't an agenda to be followed," said Facilitator Linda Merriman. "It worked so well at NTRAIN we decided to do it again, here at NACON," she said.
From the sound of noisy conversations filling the room, it was obvious that most were taking advantage of this face time opportunity.
