Charlotte, North Carolina, the “Queen City,” home of NASCAR and many interesting sites and activities has the Coast Guard Auxiliary for their annual National Conference (NACON).  Auxiliarists from every corner of the country are arriving every day, each coming to witness the workings of the organization at the most senior level.  The conference will continue through Saturday night, August 27 with the Commodore’s Banquet and keynote speaker.

Charlotte is North Carolina’s largest metropolitan area. Once called Charlottetowne, the city was named Charlotte in 1762 in honor of the British Queen “Charlotte Sophia” while the county was named Mecklenburg to denote the region in Germany where she was born.  Charlotte’s attractions are no exception. This city may have a reputation for NASCAR roots, but its attractions stretch far beyond the track (although riding shotgun at speeds of 160mph is nothing to sneeze at!).

Through the next few days, SITREP e-magazine will continue to bring NACON to your home computer.  Check back often as we will be adding and updating articles and photos every day.
