Final Farewell

Article by Mel Borofsky, Editor, SITREP

USCG Auxiliary Emblem

To all of our loyal readers,

After 12 years of continuous production, SITREP is publishing its last chapter.   Over the years we have been able, in a magazine format, to highlight the activities and accomplishments of our members and their units.

We strived to make our publication interesting and entertaining while, at the same time, provide recruiting and retention tools for our flotillas and divisions.   Many new ideas were passed on to our units, gleaned from the pages of SITREP.

I heartily thank our loyal readers and supporters.   Your contributions, articles and photos, allowed us the success we enjoyed over these 12 years.

A very special thank you goes to our Senior Webmaster, Jim D’Errico for his ten years of dedicated service to SITREP.  Thank you to our Assistant Webmasters, Mary Gibbons, Ed Lapham, Cecil Claspell and Gerard Andrews who provided their highly professional talents to the production of SITREP.   Over the years we have had many assistants and to those I also say thank you.

Lastly, as current technology overtakes our efforts,  I close cherishing the many memories of friends and acquaintances I have been lucky to meet over the years.   The past twelve years has been a great adventure for me.  I’ve traveled across our nation and to foreign countries covering special events, such as NACON, NTrain and various competitions allowing SITREP to bring those events to the kitchen tables of our members.   I’ve met Auxiliarists from across the nation and have been greeted by the most senior of our Coast Guard officers, always with courtesy and respect.   For all of this I personally thank you.

As in the past, please continue to send me your articles and photos and I will strive to edit them in a worthy fashion and pass them on to the Auxiliary publication that are our successors.

Now, for the final time, I say "much thanks" for all that you do. It is you the member who makes our organization one of the best in the world.

Mel Borofsky,
Editor, SITREP
