Opening the meeting

01 VNACO Tom Malison opens the meeting

Charlotte, August 24. One of the major benefits of NACON is the ability for all of the senior leadership of the Auxiliary to come together in one place and share “face time” with each other. The Operating Committee (OPCOM) of the Auxiliary includes the National Bridge, the various Department Chiefs and their respective Deputies.

The all-day meeting affords an opportunity for the OPCOM to present a summary of their recent achievements and share some of their plans for the future. Meeting in this fashion allows inter-department and intra-department problem solving and idea sharing.

This meeting was the first to introduce the new realignment of the National staff. New department titles and staffs were sworn in at the outset of the meeting. The new alignment better serves the Auxiliary and closely matches the alignment of our parent Coast Guard. “We are in a better position to serve the needs of our Auxiliary and the Coast Guard,” said NACO Jim Vass.

Rather than try and spell out the new staff, new acronyms and their meaning I refer you to the 40 photos that accompany this article. It was mentioned that some of the acronyms might change, and that will be addressed if and when that occurs.
